Stone Veterans Pavilion to transition to South Carolina Department of Veterans’ Affairs operation

COLUMBIA, SC (SCDVA) – The South Carolina Department of Veterans’ Affairs (SCDVA) is in final preparations for the upcoming transfer of the Stone Veterans Pavilion to its operational oversight, effective July 1, 2025. Previously operated under the oversight of the South Carolina Department of Mental Health, this 90-bed skilled-nursing facility, located on the CM Tucker Campus on Harden Street in Columbia will continue to provide vital long-term care services to eligible South Carolina Veterans.
SCDVA has contracted Avalon Healthcare Group to manage the daily operations of the Stone Veterans Pavilion. Avalon Healthcare, a trusted provider with experience in serving South Carolina’s Veteran community through their operation of the new Patriots Village in Sumter, will assume full operating status of the Columbia facility starting July 1, ensuring a seamless transition for current and future residents.
The Stone Veterans Pavilion will offer comprehensive skilled-nursing care to South Carolina citizens who are Veterans discharged from active-duty service under honorable conditions and who meet the long-term nursing care criteria established by the United States Department of Veterans’ Affairs (USDVA). This transition underscores SCDVA’s ongoing commitment to providing high-quality and compassionate care to those who have served our nation.
