April, 2024 – Dale Yonetani was admitted to the George E Wahlen Ogden Veterans Home in August 2023 for rehabilitation following an above the knee amputation of his right leg. Despite his hard work in therapy, he had to return to the hospital at the end of September for another above the knee amputation for his left leg. Dale was in and out of the hospital several times due to infections and complications from dialysis. Finally, in December his medical status stabilized.

Dale worked diligently with Occupational and Physical therapy to learn to compensate and adapt to the needs of his changed body. He got up early each morning, without fail, before he had to leave for dialysis and day by day regained his mobility and self-care skills.

After 7 months of skilled nursing and rehabilitation care, in March 2024 Dale returned to his home in Ogden, Utah with his loving wife, Emily.

Despite nearly insurmountable challenges, Dale has always shown nothing but optimism, kindness and appreciation to every member of his care team. He has been an incredible inspiration to all who have had the honor to work with him.

Dale, you are an inspiration to all of us. Congratulations on your successful return to home!
